The charter season has officially arrived. This year it promises to be a record summer, thanks to global travel restrictions easing and borders opening up. With inventory in both Europe and the Americas tight, most popular yachts are either gone or booking up quickly. We found a range of the world’s top charter vessels still available for the season. But hurry, they’ll go fast.
‘Flying Fox’
Delivered by Lürssen in 2019, Flying Fox is the world’s largest charter yacht. It doesn’t get more sociable than this 446-foot vessel, with 25 guests accommodated across 11 staterooms. The stunning gigayacht will cruise the western Mediterranean this summer. Flying Fox’s many extras include a 40-foot transverse main deck pool and a bridge deck open-air cooking station, with a rotisserie, teppanyaki grill and pizza oven. The two-floor, 4,300-square-foot spa has a hammam, Jacuzzi, sauna and cryosauna. Six dedicated tenders will let guests land on the glitzy French Riviera or glamorous western Italy. ‘Lana’
This 352-foot Benetti, which will be stationed in the Med this summer, is one of the most exciting additions to the charter fleet. Features such as a cinema room, beach club with folding terraces as well as a hammam and massage room (with professional therapists), a large pool on the top deck and large outdoor salons make it an exceptional experience. Lana offers a full range of water activities, from windsurfing to waterskiing and wakeboarding. Its foredeck can even be used for driving practice with biodegradable golf balls. ‘RoMEA’
This 268-foot superyacht by Abeking & Rasmussen will make an exceptional charter in the Med this summer. The high-end interior, which accommodates 12 guests, is supplemented by a bespoke entertainment center that includes satellite television, a comprehensive music and video library plus a cinema on its main deck. RoMEA’s onboard spa, with its massage room and Finnish sauna, also has its own therapist. Water activities include scuba, kayaking, jet bikes and windsurfers. Its tenders also serve as towboats. ‘Ragnar’
A dedicated explorer with an ice-class hull, Ragnar can travel the world with its 6,000-mile range. The yacht’s tough exterior contrasts with a comfortable interior that includes a full gym, spa with a massage room, sauna and steam room, as well as a fully certified helipad with an Airbus EC145 helicopter and a submersible for exploring remote depths. The 224-foot yacht won’t be exploring the Antarctic this summer, however, but will be impressing crowds during its charters on the Italian coast. From Burgess, starting at about $525,000 per week
‘Game Changer’
Having just completed an ocean research circumnavigation and a major refit in 2020, Game Changer is in Central America this summer, ready to take adventurous spirits to some of the most beautiful and remote destinations around. The expedition yacht can explore Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula or perhaps head south to Patagonia, where charter guests can explore the region’s wild, grassy plains in the yacht’s Airbus H130 custom helicopter. There are also opportunities to explore ice floes in Alaska or see a whole new world at 3,500 feet below the surface in the Game Changer’s U-Boat Worx submersible. ‘Maltese Falcon’
There’s only one boat like Maltese Falcon, which is available in Greece this summer. Sail the Saronic Gulf aboard the 296-foot hybrid motorsailer that changed yacht design forever. Built in 2006 by Perini Navi, the yacht’s iconic Falcon rig turns heads wherever she goes, plus it’s just plain cool to be sailing on a yacht that is so unique. The charter includes island-hopping around Greece—sunbathing on the main deck by day, and enjoying an alfresco seafood dinner and watching a movie on one of yacht’s largest outdoor cinema screens by night. ‘EIV’
This fast-displacement 164-footer, delivered by Rossinavi last year, packs a whole lot of punch for a charter yacht. Enrico Gobbi’s interior is elegant but informal, with custom decor and fabrics by Hermès, Rubelli and Armani Casa. The yacht’s open-plan interior spaces are dressed in marble, leather, onyx, bronzed brass metal and delicate artworks in Murano glass; they pair nicely with a sporty exterior that features many social areas as well as an oversized swimming pool on the sundeck, with glass sides for added effect. ‘Da Vinci’
Calling all speed demons: We’ve found your perfect charter. Hitting a top speed of 38 knots, Da Vinci is a 164-foot Mangusta fine-tuned for performance. This ultimate party yacht will be powering through the Med this summer. Outdoor spaces include a large flybridge with a bow covered in sunpads. Space is carved out for a sundeck Jacuzzi. ‘Rebeca’
What better way to enjoy the Italian Riviera than aboard 134-foot Rebeca, the latest model in Benetti’s Oasis 40m series. Delivered in 2020, this is a yacht that celebrates the great outdoors. Start the day with an Aperol Spritz on the beach terrace distinguished by foldout wings on both sides—they provide twice the space of most yachts this size. The other cool thing about this design is that one can cruise the coast—Amalfi, of course—from either a lounge chair or the glass infinity pool and watch it pass by while basically being at sea level. Farther south, the scent of Sicilian lemons on the sea breeze greets you at the beautiful anchorage at Mondello, which also has one of the nicest beaches near Palermo. ‘Athos’
It’s not only motoryachts that come in big packages. Step aboard Athos, the world’s largest privately owned schooner. Built in 2010 by Holland Jachtbouw and available for charter in the Caribbean and Bahamas, the 203-footer is a schooner-rigged sailing yacht for both experienced sailors and novices.
