OCEANCO REVEALS KAIROS: THE NEXT GENERATION OF YACHTING

Oceanco has revealed the first images of their latest superyacht concept, KAIROS. The result of a first-time collaboration between the Dutch shipyard and renowned design studio Pininfarina, technical design and engineering development is provided by long-time Oceanco collaborator Lateral Naval Architects. Created in harmony with Oceanco’s NXT initiative on superyacht sustainability and innovation, KAIROS is developed around an E-Hybrid propulsion system that uses batteries as the primary source of energy.

KAIROS is taken from one of the ancient Greek words for time, specifically time energised by possibility, celebration and the potential of the future. Open and imaginatively redefined spaces pay homage to this philosophy, offering owners and guests ultimate flexibility and a seamless connection to the ocean. “KAIROS is a remarkable vision shared by three passionate, forward-thinking partners: Pininfarina, Lateral and Oceanco,” states Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco’s CEO.

Commenting on her unique design features, Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group, says that the aim was to create an entirely new concept of how space is used onboard yachts. “Our passion as designers is to imagine new concepts of space that are capable of bringing enchantment to every moment of the yachting experience,” Pininfarina explains.

The next generation of yachting

KAIROS is the first yacht concept revealed as part of Oceanco NXT, launched in October 2020. Dedicated to propelling superyachts into a sustainable future, NXT is a collaborative initiative between Oceanco, world-renowned designer Giles Taylor, architecture and interior design studio TANK, Lateral Naval Architects and Oceanco Co-Maker Unlimited, and makes Oceanco’s commitment to real change crystal clear.

Marcel Onkenhout explains the philosophy at the heart of NXT. “Oceanco NXT brings together a cohort of luminaries in the yachting, technology and design worlds to marry innovation and sustainability in an authentic and meaningful way,” he says. “Oceanco NXT represents our commitment and fundamental belief that the best way to set new benchmarks is to co-create them with experts from a wide array of industries - not just yachting. In creating Oceanco NXT, we seek partners who share a common ambition to innovate and forge a sustainable pathway for tomorrow’s yachts.”

Though specific details of KAIROS are currently confidential, Onkenhout states that when it comes to sustainable solutions that maximise lifestyle features, KAIROS will lead the way. “When owners see the Oceanco NXT endorsement on a yacht’s design, they know they can expect elevated standards of life on board that are in tune with new perspectives on sustainability and lifestyle.”
