1972 HINCKLEY Bermuda 40 ‘WINDSWEPT’ The William Tripp, Jr. designed Hinckley Bermuda 40 is a true American classic. Her lovely lines, mirror-like varnish, substantial polished stainless steel fittings and timeless design have tickled the fancy of boaters since the launch of hull #1 in 1960. There were 200 plus B-40s built between 1960 and 1991 and WINDSWEPT is an example of one of the most iconic, recognizable, vessels ever built. With a draft of 4' 9" center board up and 9' 3" with the center board down, there are not many places that the B-40 cannot go. It is at home cruising the Chesapeake Bay, or in her element offshore, board down, sails reefed, in a 25- knot breeze and 4-6ft rollers. I won’t extol the virtues of the Hinckley brand in this limited space because quite frankly, you can get that information these days with a click of a button. If you are looking for a modern design, plastic fantastic, with 2 steering wheels and a nav station more suited for a 787, keep looking; WINDSWEPT is not for you. On the other hand, if you are a mature, seasoned sailor, desiring the finest in American design, ingenuity, and craftsmanship, read on. This could be your next boat, and maybe your last!
